MULADHARA

ROOT CHAKRA ~ MULADHARA (ROOT SUPPORT)Just as all journeys begin with a single step, you can only take this step by making solid contact with earth, the element of the first chakra. So it is fitting that you begin your long journey upward through the chakras by initially going down into the earth, into your flesh, into your legs and feet. The first Chakra is the foundation of the entire chakra system. It is the ground that supports and nourishes you. Without a solid foundation, your temple will not be strong. Without deep roots, your tree will not grow tall. Without an anchor, you have no stability.

As we begin our Chakra Journey in the physical realm, ask yourself “How is your body feeling?” If your body had something to say to you right now what would that be?

Muladhara is located at the base of the spine and is associated with the adrenal glands. The demon of this chakra is fear.  When survival is threatened we feel afraid.  Fear heightens our awareness and floods the body with natural chemicals (such as adrenalin) to energize it for action.  We either stay and fight or run and hide. What is your habitual response to stress?

The issues that affect this chakra are work, home, family, health, structure, finances, trust, nourishment, and security. Does your work provide a good foundation for your life? Does your home feel supportive and nourishing for you? Do you feel sense of family? Are you healthy? Does your life have structure?.Are your finances in order? Do you trust life? Do you trust yourself?  Do you trust others? Do you feel nourished? Do you feel secure and safe? Ask your body if it has a sense if the Root Center is balanced? Or it is has excessive energy or depleted energy?

Can you relate to any of the following excessive characteristics? Heaviness, sluggishness, resistance to change, overeating, obesity, hoarding, material fixation, greediness, workaholism, excessive spending.

Can you relate to any of the following deficient characteristics? Fear, anxiety, resistance to structure, anorexia, underweight, spaciness, flightiness, vagueness, disconnection from your body, restlessness, inability to sit still, difficulty manifesting.

If you are excessive you need to focus on letting go and dissipating the excess energy in your root chakra. Ways to bring less earth energy into your life: Eat less, sleep less, work less, and do less. Play more, laugh more, move more.

If you are deficient you need to focus on filling and recharging your root chakra. Activities to bring more energy into your life: Increase your contact with nature by gardening, hiking, biking, and backpacking. Get your hands in the dirt, make something with your hands, and walk in the woods.
